Sonorexia's avant-vaudeville reveals a blend of Spike Jones, Tom Lehrer, Samuel Beckett, Gertrude Stein, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Originating as the duo of Peter Cherches on voice and occasional kazoo and Elliott Sharp on electric guitar, bass, and bass clarinet plus cheezy rhythm-box, the group expanded with the addition of drummer Katie O'Looney, keyboardist/composer Lee Feldman, and drummer Bobby Previte. Sonorexia spent a small chunk of the 1980's touring NYC's own avant-Borscht Belt with gigs ranging in all directions from a Houston St. epicenter. The original Sonorexia release was a cassette on zOaR from 1985.
